A large international pharma business based in New Jersey near New York City required and Associate Director, MSL Training on a remote basis to lead a training team nationwide. The company has an ambitious program of rare disease launches (including oncology) and has built up an excellent MSL team but needs to develop its training function.
The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Training will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the learning & development strategy for the Medical Affairs function. This role will ensure both field and office based members of the Medical Affairs team have the necessary training, support and capabilities to deliver on the requirements of the business. This role will also supervise Medical Affairs trainers and ensure all new Medical Affairs hires are trained in a timely manner to the required levels to perform their roles. This individual liaises with key stakeholders within the Medical function and other cross functional teams ensuring that the creation and pull-through of strategic directives related to the Medical training function are met.
Collaborates with leadership and other stakeholders on current and long-range goals and objectives and implements processes and solutions to meet those goals within Medical Affairs function
Demonstrates aptitude in various forms of needs assessment to help establish training and development needs of Medical Affairs staff
Identifies and evaluates training resources
Develops and implements training strategy and effectiveness programs
Directly provides training of Medical Affairs staff or ensures provisions are in place for training to be carried out by internal subject matter experts or external resources
Assists team with developing medical training materials in accordance with the Legal, Medical, Regulatory process
Delivery of business projects/objectives and other departmental support, as required
Makes use of existing learning management system, or identifies new platform, to schedule, document and track departmental training and development status, provide for on-line collaboration and optimize e-learning
Partners with stakeholders across the business and Human Resources
Plans, allocates and overseas Medical Affairs training budget
Oversight of vendor-suppliers and contracting
Plans, develops and implements Medical Affairs training meetings including POA’s and National Medical Meetings
Oversight of continual gap analyses of current training programs as well as new training initiatives
Manage Medical Affairs Training Manager(s)
Advanced degree in Health Sciences or related field (MD, PhD, DNP, PharmD, NP) is required
10+ year’s medical affairs experience in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. Direct experience in training is required.
5+ years’ experience within in an MSL capacity
3+ years within a leadership position in a Medical training function
Proven track record of ability to disseminate to others in an educational and engaging manner
Deep understanding of pharmaceutical R&D and commercialization processes
