Job Summary

The Principal Scientist/Associate Director, Protein Characterization will be a highly motivated self-starter with relevant experience in Analytical Development of Protein Biologics. The candidate will have a strong understanding of protein-based assays and work on multiple antibody campaigns in close collaboration with the Protein Sciences team. This will be a visible role reporting to the VP of Research.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and qualify different protein modalities using biochemical assays like Analytical chromatography (SEC), HPLC, SDS-PAGE, AC-SINS, CE-SDS, endotoxin assay, among others

  • Perform manufacturing and developability assessments and stability studies for proteins under different conditions

  • Characterize proteins and study binding using DSF, DSC, BLI (Octet), SPR, ELISA based Immunoassays, Western Blotting and other biophysical and biochemical assays

  • Perform bacterial and mammalian protein purification to make mg quantities of proteins for downstream applications (like PK studies)

  • Contribute to support lead candidate selection

  • Support implementation of automation approaches as required to maximize productivity

  • Collaborate with external partners to establish novel analytical methods for the company

  • Facilitate method transfer to CDMOs for GMP manufacturing campaigns

  • Analyze and present data, and troubleshoot issues as they arise

  • Foster, nurture and leverage constructive relationships across other internal functional groups

Requirements

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline

  • 5+ years of industry experience leading protein analytical sciences efforts

  • Solid understanding and experience of protein-based assays like analytical chromatography on HPLC/UPLC, AC-SINS, stability testing, isoelectric focusing, SPR, ITC, DSF, Mass Spectrometry and protein interaction and PTM detection

  • Hands-on experience with characterizing protein biologics like antibodies, enzymes and fusion proteins in an industry setting with a strong preference for antibodies

  • Experience with developability assessment campaigns is highly desirable

  • Experience with automation systems will be valuable

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, and an ability to communicate complex issues to a range of audience

  • Ability to learn new skills and adapt to challenges in a fast-paced environment
