jones_828Michelle Jones first joined RBW in 2014 following a successful career in the recruitment industry. She initially joined the business as a Trainer and following a recent promotion is now the Head of Academy and Internal Trainer. We spoke to Michelle about how she started her career in recruitment, why she would recommend RBW and what the Development Academy has to offer.

 

How did you get into recruitment?

Prior to starting my career in the industry I worked as a retail manager for a high street store which required a lot of travel. After deciding I wanted to work closer to home I applied for a trainee role which I saw in the local paper. After a group assessment centre interview I was offered the job and the rest is history!

 

Why recruitment?

I knew people that had worked in the industry and they had good things to say about it! Almost everyone I spoke to talked about the earning potential on hand in exchange for hard work. As well as being motivated by the earning potential, I was also really attracted by the fast career progression opportunities.

 

What do you like most about recruitment?

 I enjoy the fast paced environment of the recruitment industry and whilst working as a consultant I enjoyed helping people find their dream job. Recruitment is a growing industry and there is a lot of variety within the available sectors.  It’s a challenging environment to work in and the rewards for hard work are excellent. It’s a cliché, but the harder you work, the more you earn – I love that about this job!

 

What is your biggest success?

I’m really proud of my current job as Head of Academy and Training and the work I’ve put in to get here. Prior to starting this role I had been in the industry for 11 years and feel I’ve got a lot to offer people.  In my Trainer role I enjoy developing people and get a buzz from seeing my recruits do well.

 

Would you recommend RBW to your friends?

Absolutely! RBW are a young and dynamic company with a proven track record of delivering the best results. Whether new people are experienced recruiters or new to the industry, RBW has the experience and personnel to get the best out of people. The Development Academy is testament to that – lots of our competitors claim to run training programmes, but ours is geared around preparing new recruits fully – not getting them into the role as quickly as possible. More generally, it’s a fun company to be a part of - as well as stability and support there are some brilliant incentives, from days off to holidays in Brazil! On top of that, there’s a clear route of progression available to absolutely everyone. I’d definitely recommend them!

 

What does the Development Academy have to offer?

The Academy offers a step-by-step guide to recruitment; the training walks you through the entire recruitment life cycle and provides a safe learning environment to help develop your skills. The Academy builds strong foundations for new recruits to start a successful career within recruitment. In my opinion, it’s the best way to learn the job!

 

What does the first 3 months look like?

Your time will be split between desk side and classroom training. You will learn via modular topics and you will have the opportunity to sit with different senior consultants, working across different niche markets within the business to try and find the best place for you once you finish. There is lots of interaction with senior members of the team which will help develop your knowledge of the areas. We also employ different call coaching and team discussion sessions all to assist with building your skills.

 

How do I apply?

We run a Development Academy every quarter and hire 4 recruits on each intake. The initial interview stage is a Group Assessment; successful candidates will then invited to a final interview stage before decisions are made on each hire. What is the biggest success the Development Academy has seen?

There have been lots of people doing very well once they’ve come out of the academy. Recently, Rebecca Evans has done fantastically well; after 7 months of joining the business, Rebecca hit 225% of her target and was promoted from Researcher to Consultant. In this time she has also attended 2 Directors Lunch’s (a Friday afternoon at a Michelin starred restaurant!)  and earnt an extra days holiday. This is a great achievement for someone who had no recruitment experience before joining RBW and looks to be just the start!
