Celebrating the first employee to reach their 10th RBW anniversary



This month we want to say a massive congratulations to Howard Johnson who has worked with RBW Consulting for 10 years! Back in 2009, Howard joined as a Recruitment Consultant and was one of the first employees to join and work alongside the 3 owners of the business, Nick, Andy and Richard. Since then his role has focused on the Life Science industry where he saw real success working with clients and candidates in the DACH Clinical market. Most recently he has moved into the position of Head of Practice, focusing on the CRO and Service Provider industry within our HQ office.


We caught up with Howard 10 years down the line to discuss his RBW career...


What made you join RBW 10 years ago?

Interestingly this answer is what still resonates true today and why I remain excited to be part of RBW.  What first struck me was the passion and ambition of the three owners, Nick, Andy and Richard.  They aren’t just interested in making a quick buck, they are interested in the personal development and growth of each and every Consultant in conjunction with developing and expanding the business.  You can’t fake that passion and interest, and it’s contagious.  I think it’s a real testament to the guys that this remains burning bright ten years on.


What is the highlight of your RBW career?

I think that would be very hard to answer.  There have been many real positives from my time at RBW, every promotion is absolutely a career highlight, as is when a team member also achieves their career milestones.  What truly stands out though is that I have grown up at RBW, and I feel that on top of everything I have achieved internally, the company has also been a real part of my personal moments of achievement outside of the office as well.




What advice now would you give yourself on your first day?

Do what you did then – listen and learn from everyone around you, absorb as much as you can.  Fundamentally though give 100% effort every day.  Don’t relax or take your foot off the gas, because when you do, recruitment has a funny way of biting back.


What do the next 10 years look like for you and RBW?

This is impossible to answer, however having very recently started the role of Head of Practice CRO, I am very excited to see how this part of the business can expand and develop our relationships with both existing and new clients as we offer a truly specialist niche service which will truly separate us from our competitors.


What advice would you give someone just starting out in their recruitment career?

Take on all the advice you can, it is so important to be open minded to your approach.  Listen and learn from everyone around you.  Don’t be afraid of making mistakes and be resilient – it won’t always go your way.  Most importantly though, put in as much effort as you possibly can.  This last point is key.  Recruitment can be a hugely rewarding career; however, it is only those that truly apply themselves that see the results of this.  Quite simply if you don’t try your hardest every day, you won’t get those rewards.
