(Senior) Director Business Development

I am currently looking for a Director or Senior Director of Business Development for a mid-sized global full service clinical Contract Research organization with a great culture and an excellent track record and footprint across the US and Europe and APAC. This CRO has been around for a long time and has a very strong reputation in the biotech space. They have been out performing the competition in what has been a challenging market. They have a very strong clinical and medical teams, with some excellent expertise to support the BD department on bid-defences. They also have a well respected and innovative CCO.

The role is an individual sales contributor role focusing on the California territory. This CRO has a fantastic account strategy where you will be set up for success. You will be responsible for existing accounts as well as securing new business, predominantly with early to mid-sized biotechnology companies. In order to be successful in this role you will require a strong network and sales track record in this region, selling full service CRO solutions.

This CRO are very strong across multiple therapeutic areas. including but not limited to oncology, cardio, dermatology, rare diseases and general medicine.

This role comes with a very lucrative base salary, plus an industry leading, uncapped commission plan.

Your role will include:

  • Achieving agreed upon sales and business development targets Creating and implementing appropriate business development strategies for identified target markets
  • Prospecting with the goal of establishing a pipeline of sales opportunities and RFP’s from potential clients; suitably qualified for competitive advantage, timing, budget, decision maker
  • Utilizing Salesforce to keep track of client activities including meetings and entering opportunities and updates as required to inform Management of current status
  • Leading and managing the sales process for leads generated and leads received from internal and external sources.
  • Leading the proposals development process for all opportunities and the assigned team to ensure that the strategy, budget and proposal language and timelines matches the expectations of the client as identified through extensive interactions with these clients.
  • Continually redefining appropriate and profitable market niches for business opportunities, based on evidence.
  • Providing input to the Marketing team so that they can create and implement appropriate marketing strategies that support the business development process and team
  • Providing input to business development leadership based on territory and industry knowledge to develop sales targets, sales strategies and sales plans
  • Working with the team to define and implement strategies to support the sales process, including securing resources to perform pre-sales activities
  • Engaging with agents and consultants in other geographic locations to support business development activities in those markets
  • Engaging with internal research staff to maximise selling opportunities associated with existing travel schedules of those staff
  • Identifying and attending appropriate conferences and trade shows to create business opportunities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and lead clinical pharmacology strategy aligned with target product profiles, program goals, and regulatory pathways
  • Partner with Clinical Development to design biopharmaceutics and clinical pharmacology plans supporting regulatory submissions and labelling
  • Lead clinical pharmacology activities across Phase I–IV studies, including PK/PD strategy and population modelling
