Deep Listening

The first thing someone says is 14 percent of what they are thinking. This means that 86 percent of what they think and mean usually remains obscure and opaque to the listener.

Effective communication is as much about what we hear as it is about what we say though. And listening can be done with the whole body, not just our ears. Whether we are a scientist or a CEO, listening is critical to how effectively we operate in both our professional and personal lives, yet for most of us, we’ll never receive any formal training in this skill.
