The Opportunity
This Clinical Operations Manager position is ideal for an experienced clinical research professional who enjoys leading teams, shaping processes and influencing how trials are delivered. You will have genuine ownership over line management, operational oversight and resourcing, while working closely with project teams and senior management. Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that clinical trials are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory requirements, Standard Operating Procedures and project agreements, while leading and supporting members of our client’s team.
Line Management
• Act as line manager for one or more Clinical Leads and/or administrative staff within our client’s team.
• Work with Human Resources and senior management to identify resource needs and support hiring of new staff.
• Ensure all line reports receive appropriate induction and understand policies and procedures relevant to their role.
• Meet regularly with line reports to review and manage work quality, workload, welfare and development needs.
• Lead performance management activities including setting goals and objectives, competency assessments, salary reviews, promotions and succession planning.
• Review and assist with the development and maintenance of clinical operations processes, tools and SOPs.
• Review and approve internal expense requests in line with company policy.
• Review and approve leave requests in line with company policy.
Learning and Development
• Conduct accompanied monitoring assessments and co-monitoring visits to ensure compliance with SOPs, GCP and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of training to Clinical Operations staff, supporting skills growth across our client’s team.
Business Development and External Representation
• Represent our client at industry conferences and professional meetings as required.
• Support feasibility assessments and provide feasibility information to business development teams.
• Maintain a strong understanding of local and international clinical trial landscapes and provide informed advice to business development.
• Identify and highlight opportunities within projects or existing client relationships to expand business collaborations.
• Participate in bid defence and other business development meetings with local and international clients as a clinical operations representative.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key clinical trial sites and opinion leaders.
• Build and manage relationships with local third-party vendors such as central laboratories, depots, couriers, regulatory consultants and translation providers.
General Responsibilities
• Adhere to company policies, procedures and guidelines, maintaining a strong focus on quality in all activities.
• Identify areas of inefficiency in clinical operations and recommend improvements.
• Assist in the review and development of clinical operations SOPs and guidelines.
• Participate actively in the clinical operations group, including contributing to and presenting at clinical team meetings.
• Understand the responsibilities of our client as a service provider in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Ensure all communications with external parties and all aspects of study team performance present a positive professional image of our client.
About You
Our client is looking for a Clinical Operations Manager who brings both hands-on clinical research experience and proven leadership capability.
• Graduate in a life sciences related field and/or significant line management experience within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience in a Senior CRA, Project Manager or similar role, with considerable monitoring experience.
• Previous experience within a contract research organisation and line and/or matrix management experience are highly regarded.
• Able to balance operational oversight with people management, providing clear guidance while supporting autonomy and professional growth.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
